For the great courage he showed, His Majesty the King has been pleased on my proposal to award the Civil Medal 1st class for Bravery to Detective Sergeant Paul Campbell and requested me to hand over this mark of honour to him.

At the time he turned into the rue Gray his attention was attracted by loud bangs and shouting coming from inside a jewellers shop. He ran towards the shop entrance and saw two aggressors and the shop keeper facing each other with a gun in their hands. Obviously, shots had already been fired as the shop keeper and aggressors showed injuries with blood at their head and hands.
Detective Campbell, who was unarmed, succeeded to open the door while showing his UK police badge while shouting “police, police”. In a most professional and cold-blooded way he could interpose himself between the aggressors and the shop keeper. Using only his tact and experience as a policeman he succeeded to stop the violence by disarming the aggressors and controlling the shop keeper. Sergeant Campbell was able to keep the situation under control till the arrival of the police intervention team.
